This case is sort of the ultimate protection for your camera if you are an outdoors person. The only real downside is that it is rather bulky, so you sure won't be slipping your camera into your pocket if it's in this case. Also, you DO need to read the instructions carefully to make sure you understand how to properly care for and use the case with your camera. In just about every other way, I think you'll find this case is absolutely the answer to your prayers.



My family and I are a very active group. For example, every year we go on a two-week vacation to Kauai doing LOTS of outdoor activities, including snorkeling, scuba diving, river and ocean kayaking, marine animal (such as whale watching) ocean boating trips, just hanging out at the beach, and this year we added "ziplining" nearly 100 feet up in the trees. Previously, we'd wind up buying those cheap one-time-use "underwater" cameras for most of these activities for fear of damaging our expensive digital camera, and the result was always the same... mostly very crummy photos. NO MORE!!! This year we did all of these activities, and more, even in tropical rain showers, and got outstanding photos because we used this new Sony Marine Pack with our W230. I was truly amazed that this case allows you to use every single control on your camera, SAFELY, even while scuba diving at a depth of 60 feet as we did (supposedly good up to 132 feet).

THe housing itself looks pretty solid and the built in diffuser is a nice addition. The tinted housing however impedes the flash somewhat. I guess this was done purposely for the addition of the External TTL strobe. This of course is a setback if you don't have any intention of buying the strobe. Sony should make a clear housing for the W290 Camera.



I bought this housing from Ace Photo Digital. The item reached on time and as promised. I took it on a dive and noticed the housing was fogging up a lot. I also noticed there were two little specs on the glass but that did not bother me as much as I was not seeing it showing up on the photos. The fogging however was an issue. I attempted to contact Ace Photo via their website online form as well as emailing them direct. Neither was successful. I never even got a response! I guess they already got their sale. I will never buy another product from them.

You already know this is a great camera. When you walk around with it in "easy" mode, the camera constantly adjusts to distance and lighting. All of my pictures turned out great. The camera has 11MB of internal memory. You must have a memory stick to use this camera. At 4000x3000 pixels, the images will be about 5MB each. You'll only get two on the internal memory.

I put the screen protector on perfectly and, as put it in the case, the screen protector became caught on the soft inside of the case and wrinkled. A minor problem but unfortunate. There is a small pocket on the front of the case. An extra battery will fit in it, but that isn't what it is designed for.

I ordered this camera on Saturday, it was shipped Monday, and arrived Wednesday in perfect condition. Well packed, everything as it should be in the package. The price was very good for everything you got. The little tripod is small, but very utilitarian, and as an added bonus also works with my Sony H10.



Kudos to Ace Digital Photo for prompt service and good response time--I would give them the highest recommendations!



I wanted this little camera to supplement my H10 for some west coast scenery shots that I may enlarge and put on canvas. This camera fits easily into the palm of my hand, and can be tucked into my larger camera's case.



The camera worked perfectly and since I already had the software loaded, I was able to see results immediately.



The camera is easy to use, easy to understand, and takes great pictures. It is quite small, and you'll be able to put in a purse or pocket. I love the dark blue color, and the front has a "microridge" kind of surface (feels a little like the ridges on a plastic Fresnel lens), which provides a non slippery surface to prevent your fingers from sliding off. The dark silver trim complements the camera nicely.



Yes, you'll have to use lens protectors and/or keep lens cleaner handy, because the minute you touch the back screen, it smudges. The screen is bright enough to see in daylight, which is good (because there is no viewfinder).



The Amazon price for this camera package is a good one--Target sells this camera for $250 without any extras. I haven't used it at night, but I think it will be okay or I'll be able to figure out how to get to where I want it.

I am very Happy with Sony W290. I had compared the features of W300. surprisingly Sony has reduced the number of features in W300 as compared to W290 and also the optical zoom is reduced in W300 to 3X from 5X. I still need to explore a bit to get good pictures in night. Overall am happy with the product.



Lastly, one of the Battery in the Package is not working properly. Not sure whether i will get a new battery.

I purchase the Sony DSC W290 to replace a DSC w170 that I loved but needed repairs of over $100. This is my 7th Sony Cybershot camera. I am obviously a Sony Cybershot fan. This camera is a big disappointment. It does not through the lense view finder which I knew before I bought it but still want. I am very disappointed that Sony no longer offers a pocket size camera with a thru the lense view finder. In bright sun it is very important. The biggest disappoint is the lag time in taking pictures. The DSC 170 was much faster. It allowed me to turn off lots of the automatic functions that slow down digital cameras. The automatic features are nice in some situations but when I am trying to take picture of my grandchildren they often cause me to miss the shot. I am sorry I bought the camera - I should have known that the low price was too good to be true. This camera is probably good for a beginner but not for any one who wants to take pictures of anything that might move. I bought this camera a few days ago and was a little worried I may not like it after reading a few negative reviews. But I have to say it works very well. This camera is very easy to use. I began taking pictures without even reading the instructions yet and had great results. I was taking pictures at a wedding reception with the lights dimmed and all my pictures turned out great with the exception of a few shots where people were moving. I am going to try a different setting next time for that after I read the directions. :)

I bought this for my wife but I wanted something I could use to do more challenging type shots and videos. I was impressed it would allow for HD Video recording (720P). We took the camera on our vacation to Vegas and the Grand Canyon. It did a great job. The quality of recording and picture was outstanding. I was a little disappointed that I could not zoom while recording video (could zoom in while paused and re-start recording) and also the auto focus seemed to "hunt" a lot when doing movie recordings. I would have liked more options for focus in the movie mode other than Auto and Fixed Infinity. Other than that it was a great camera.

I have a habit of taking blurry photos; but with this camera not one is blurry so far. The only pitfall is that is doesn't have a viewfinder so taking photos in the bright sunlight is difficult. I gave up the viewfinder for a larger screen. Overall, it's a great camera for the money.

I got this for the video and It is as good or better than I expected. The photo quality isn't very good compared to other point and shoot cameras I have had, but I have a nikon d40 and d2x for great quality. I just like the fact that I can carry around one small camera in my pocket that will take decent photos and will shoot great videos, for that and the low price (i got it at adorama for $219) I think it is an exceptional value. The videos are so much better than anything I ever shot on a point and shoot before. The image stabilization helps the video look more professional too. I am very happy with it.

I am extremely happy with this purchase and just ordered an extra Memory card as the one I have is only 1GB. I would have given it 5 stars if it could use SD card and standard USB cable.

I've used the camera extensively for 3 weeks (hundreds of shots, dozens of videos)



Positives:

* Flexible Lens (wide angle - 5x zoom).

* bright 3" LCD.

* HD (720p) video (superb video quality for this price range, though the audio isn't great).

* Good image stabilization. Maybe not the best out there, but I took telephoto shots at dusk with no blur(!)

* Great color fidelity. The Sony-ish colors we know and love.

* Excellent user interface and ergonomics (be advised that buttons are small).

* Intelligent auto mode - determines the situation (backlit, macro, indoor/outdoor, etc.) and adjusts automatically

* Flexible focus and exposure options, plus face detection (though this is more-or-less standard these days)

* Smile shutter was a lot of fun -- but probably not something I'm going to use often.

* Blink-detected warning (Tells you if someone blinked in the photo you just took.) Quite useful.

* Easily pocketable.

* Great-looking.



Negatives:

* Won't zoom while shooting videos



For the price (it was on sale at 20% off), nothing comes close.
