Opteka 52mm Screw-in Collapsible Rubber Lens Hood / Shade

Opteka rubber lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

"Decent enough hood for most needs." 2009-09-21
By S. J. Anderson (Orlando, FL USA)
The Opteka screw-in hood, works. That's the short of it. If you're looking for a cheap, collapsible hood, this will suit most people fine. However, if you are shooting wide angle (such as with an 18-55mm lens), you will have the hood visible on the lower half of your range. At ~18-20mm, even with the hood in the "collapsed" position, some slight vignetting in the corners was apparent. One nice feature that I do find helpful is being able to attach filters before and/or after the hood.

PROS:

+ As a hood, it works fine.

+ Screw-in feature is appreciated

+ Good price point

CONS:

- Visible in wide-angle shots, even when collapsed out of view

 "poor quality rubber" 2009-09-19

I used this hood for less than a year before the rubber cracked at the seams and fell apart.

Inexpensive to replace, but poor longevity.

This hood was inexpensive. The "screw in feature" really makes go on and aff very easy. Material is more than adequate.

"awesome price and works great!" 2009-04-29
By Tina V (Twin Cities, MN USA)
This hood lens works great. it fits perfectly into my canon 50mm f1.8 lens and also w/ a filter on! :) It's rubber so you're able to push in the hood so it makes room to place back into your camera bag. I recommend this product and plan to order thru this co. again.

 "Excellent Deal" 2009-09-28
By Mohammed Ehfaj Khan (Chicago, IL USA)
I got shipped before estimated delivery schedule.

These work great with my D40 using 18-55mm. Specially +10 Lense. I guess I rare use others (i.e. +1, +2 & +4)

Anyways this is awesome at this price. I am much satisfied what I expected.

"Hard to beat for the money if you want to do Macro" 2009-09-21
By S. J. Anderson (Orlando, FL USA)
If you don't have a dedicated macro lens, or something like a 70-300mm lens with a macro mode, this is an awfully tempting deal. And for less then $10, it really is a good deal. The quality of the glass is more than adequate, and they do exactly what they are intended. The only problem I encountered was that my lens' autofocus would generally not work with the +10 macro filter. However, if setting up macro shots, you should have no problem manually focusing by hand. The case the filters was shipped in was also not of great quality, and could see it scratching the glass if they had not been individually wrapped in plastic beforehand. This is a non-issue for me, as I have dedicated filter wallets, but for someone who will be using this to carry these around, use caution.

PROS:

+ Good quality glass filters

+ Great deal for macro photography

CONS:

- It's still not as good as a macro lens

- Included filter wallet is sub-standard

 "A satisfied consumer" 2009-09-03
By Jerry W. Robertson (Mobile, Al. USA)
I am very pleased with my recent purchase of Digital Concepts close-up Macro Filter Set. Still learning the skills to properly use them to thier full potential but have already had some great results. The price was really great compared to all others I looked at. I would highly recommend this set to anyone who would like to enter the world of very close or macro photos. I'm sure there are better , more expensive products out there, but for a novice you can't beat it! I keep it in my camera bag at all times just to be prepared! A small tripod is highly recommended for these although handheld shots are still possible. I am thouroughly enjoying my set. Jerry Robertson

 "Well worth the price" 2009-08-27
By jlo88pianokeys (Michigan, USA)
This set is well worth the price. I found myself constantly wishing to get more up-close when I was photographing flowers, but my Nikon D40 was unable to focus when I was that close to the object. Being a poor college student, I certainly do not have the money to invest in macro lenses, so this set was a great alternative. I can now get some of those up-close shots that I was itching to get. These filters are so fun to play with!

I have no complaints, other than that the pouch is a little disappointing, as others have stated in previous reviews. The nylon net pockets inside of the pouch are rather cheap, and almost seem like they could scratch the glass of the filters, so I store each filter inside a plastic wrap pouch before slipping them into the pockets.

 "Great diopters" 2009-07-15
By Christopher Beaugrand (San Mateo, CA United States)
I used to have a set of diopter lenses and they enabled me to take great photos of flowers - one of my favorite subjects. I have no idea why I went so long before buying a new set once I went digital, but it has been about 10 years since I used my previous set.

These lenses are great. They come in a very handy pouch, which makes storing and carrying them around very easy without worrying about damage. The quality seems great. I've gotten some excellent super-close-up flower shots again with the +10, and the +1 is great for giving me very very narrow depth of field in photos of objects a foot or two away.

These are absolutely worth the money - I'm very happy with them.

"Not perfect but them good" 2009-08-22
By Luc Belec (Florida)
No, I'm not a professional and I did read the other comment. For few dollars I got filter who works perfectly for me. Neon lights up room look more natural the shade makes my boating day breather looking. For the uv protection, I can't see the difference on my 10 Mp Cannon camera. For the glass v/s plastic lents I can't see where the problem and the frame threaded part work just fine, to me.

"Good price, but not multi coated, so buyer beware" 2009-07-15
By Naveen Narula (Alpharetta, GA, USA)
These are advertised as multi coated, but they are not. Not that one would expect good multi coated filters at that low a price point. Under normal lighting conditions the filter works fine, but at low light conditions the reflective nature of this filter (due to poor multi coating) potentially ruins the picture.

I wish it was not advertised as multi coated.

 "Good filters" 2009-05-20
By D. C. Eaton (Avon, IN United States)
The previous reviewer pretty much said it all. However, I really don't think that you can blame missed focus on these filters. In any event, my Sony a350 focuses just the same with or without the filters.

"Good for the money. " 2009-04-07
By John L. Butchart (greensboro, nc usa)
For the cost, these filters do a great job. I don't own really expensive filters, but I know quality when I see it. Each filter consists of metal ring construction. The UV haze is glass, and I believe the circular polarizer filter is glass, and the florescent filter is plastic. Each filter installs on each of my lenses easily and seem to work great. I did loan the CPL to a friend who used it on a Canon telephoto. She found that with that filter on that lens the photos were out of focus. She was shooting mid to late afternoon outside so perhaps with that filter it was throwing off some settings in the camera. I've used them on manual and auto lenses without encountering that problem. Get them, especially if you're a budget-conscious buyer.
