When I ordered the Opteka Flash Diffuser for the Sigma EF-500 & EF-530 DG ST & Super Flashes for my Sigma 530 ST, I was looking for something to help even out the light from this very powerful flash. I will admit that when it arrived I was concerned as the packaging was marked as a diffuser for a Canon 580 EX flash.



The Diffuser fit my 530 ST just fine though and works well for what it costs. Most of the time I use flash for real estate photography and this diffuser does a good job of spreading the light out evenly around the room. I would recommend it to owners of the Sigma 530 ST or Super looking for a cheap solution to diffusing your flash.

Fit my sigma flash perfect, the only thing is the packaging stated it was for a canon flash, but once i put it on it fit perfect, and if it is pushed on properly, it's nice and tight and definetly does it's job and soften's up that harsh light.

This diffuser was designed to snugly fit a canon 580EX flash not the Sigma 530. Attaching the diffuser takes a bit of effort so is removing. The vendor should advertise this product as a universal fit made for Canon flashes instead of advertising it specifically for the Sigma 530 flash only. I was tempted to return the product if not for the shipping which costs more than the item itself.

Seeing as the level is essentially a sealed chamber 3/4 full of liquid, it's not exactly a difficult function to perform. The unit fits snugly in my hot shoe without being overly tight, and the lexan/plastic is very clear. One thing a buyer should be aware of are ground "dimples" on one tip of each axis. Obviously this doesn't impede the function of the device, but it does make it look a little cheap (hence the -1 star).

I don't know how this thing could cost $42. It looks very cheap, low quality plastic. Furthermore, it's not precise at all. To make the image horizontal, I have to make sure that approximately 2/3 of the bubble are on the left side of the welding line. The precision level is something like +-2 degrees which I guess isn't much more precise than your unarmed eye could see. Lastly, the copy I received seems to be used, thinking about returning it back.

This item arrived promptly, and that's about the only redeeming thing about the entire order. My order was missing the main support strap. There was no how-to assemble booklet or manual. The padding for the shoulder rest is not padding but extra firm plastic-like material, hardly what anyone could call comfortable. Aside from the missing parts, the unit has a cheap feel and I would not use this with a large pro-sumer or professional video camera/camcorder. The bolts that hold camera to the unit are flimsy. Customer support is questionable. I called and emailed the company but I got NO replies. Stay away from this company and spend the extra dollars to find a steady-cam device or look on youtube to build one yourself. There are actually kits on the web that show you how to make your own. I am stuck with a device I cannot use that I paid for. I am very dissatisfied and will probably have to contact Better Business Bureau not to mention Consumer Division of Attorney General's office until I get satisfaction.

Caveat Emptor when it comes to 47street Photo and this Opteka device!

Shoulder supported camcorders are smoother and require less energy to stabilize. The torso makes for a great pivot. The Opteka kind of makes a shoulder support system for cams that are without. I film cycling races with a Canon XHA1. It's not shoulder supported like the XL1 or 2 models.

Often I'm in tight spots with large crowds and have to maneuver to change lenses, tapes etc. Being able to do so without a dismount was impossible with the Steadybrace (abdomen support model). I don't have anything bad to say about Steadybrace. They have great customer support, and the brace is a good one to use but...my needs changed a bit.

I can operate easier now with the Opteka. The Opteka can- on the fly, be adjusted to aim higher or lower without over doing it with your back or fatiguing your shoulders. I can take both hands off the rig to change a lens or tape without dismounting because the camera rig is snug and secure to my torso. The Opteka is slim and simple. It appears to be made of thick, strong plastic. I don't know about their customer support since I haven't had to contact them. There doesn't appear to be a need for the Varizoom rocker that I had mounted to the Steadybrace as of yet. Since my hands aren't holding the support anymore, I can use both hands to zoom and focus now. I'll probably still use the Steadybrace for some events but I'm excited about using the Opteka for the simple design and not having to take the rig on and off. A big plus is this - I can also use the eyepiece or the LCD viewfinder without strain. Last but not least, cost. The Opteka is extremely affordable for what it does.

Update October:

I took this rig on a shoot. We were filming at some airports around the nation. Of course it wasnt practical in the plane but trying to get it set up once we landed was a task. I ended up just not using it into the second stop. What i did notice was that the device always wanted to lean to the right and cause you some unwanted tilt. Got some back pain from over correcting. Not sure I am going to use this a whole lot.

How you can fit a GL-1 or any pro consumer camcorder plus accessories, plus have extra room is beyond me. I ordered it and for some reason I thought I could fit that kind of camera equipment in it. I was wrong...unless you take out all the padding, then sure it would work. I would only recommend this for small hand held camcorders or digital cameras. If you want proper protection don't get this one for your larger camcorders!

I purchased this case to house my video camera, an IR light and a few other accessories that I use for paranormal investigations. In under two months, the case began to come apart and I had to use Epoxy all along the back edge and at all of the corners to keep it together. I am purchasing a Pelican case to replace this one! I would not recommend this case for anyone who is wanting to keep something valuable like cameras in it as you never know when it will just come apart. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

I use this case for a Canon GL1, a wide angle lens, a few batteries, and it's charger. And there's still room to spare. The exterior of the case looks great, and it seems well made. I would have given it a 5-Star review if it weren't for the somewhat flimsy foam inside. If you often store your camera case the way it's shown in the picture and have a heavier camera, you need to leave quite a bit of foam around the camera for support. Because there is quite a bit of room inside, you may be tempted to remove a lot of the foam to make several pockets. This may be disadvantageous because it will weaken the foam support around the main camera, and after a while thinner rows of foam will break free and not hold the camera in place. Make sure you plan accordingly before you remove the foam. I would recommend storing the camera closer to the hinges rather than the handle, so it doesn't put a weight strain on the weaker foam in the middle.

The picture is great. I resized all of my pictures using a photoshop script so they wouldn't be too big. It is short on instructions and the interface is difficult to use, but nice looking, but after it's set up, it's a nice frame. This frame is 800x600 resolution and has decent transitions. It does not support SDHD cards (usually over 4GB). It seems to freak out for me when the image count exceeds 1600 images on an SD card, so more than 2GB of data probably wouldn't work anyways. It has good viewing angle from the sides and top, but if you're looking up at it at all, the picture goes dark. (we have it sitting on top of something about 4-5 feet high, and when we sit on the couch we can't see the image well.) I'd say you need to have a 30 degree or less viewing angle from the bottom. I don't know if this is a limitation of all digital frames.

I'm not technically savvy, and I was thrilled at how easy it was to load photos onto this frame and ship it off as a gift to my Mom. She opened it while on the phone with me, I had her plug it in and turn it on, and the phone went silent..."Mom? Ma, are you there?" She was weeping with joy as pictures she hadn't seen in years appeared in gorgeous clarity on the screen before her. You can load directly from your PC or to several types of inexpensive memory cards. Experiment with 5 or 6 photos first to get your orientation right. The remote is small and not completely reliable, but you shouldn't need it for much once your picture show is running. Biggest surprise: the gloss-black frame was a huge advantage over other frames that contrast with the viewing area. If most of your photos are vertical, but you slip in a few horizontal, you'll have bands of black above and below the horizontal pic (or vice versa, if most of your images are horizontal). Some frames contrast with the black stripes, making for a choppy look. On this frame, the dead space around some pics blends seamlessly into the glossy black frame, making every picture look great. We're buying 2 more for home and office!

I purchased this product for my wife for Christmas. The 128MB internal drive turned out to be a 15MB flash drive, so I was unable to load but a few pics on it. There was also 2 red pixels on the screen. This product was defective out of the box and had the wrong drive in it. I have yet to hear back from 47th Street Photo on this and it's been a week. Needless to say, I'm not happy.
