The Power Of Location-Based Data

Anyone who has used Garmin's Forerunner 205 or 305 already understands the power that attaching location data to traditional measurements like distance, speed, time, calories burned, and heart rate can provide. Knowing exactly where you worked hardest, ran fastest (or most slowly), and lets you tailor your workouts to improve for specific distances, conditions, and types of terrain. It gives a complete picture of how you interact with every portion of your run.

Train with a virtual partner

Watch Results
Loaded with serious training features, Forerunner 405 continuously monitors your time, distance, pace, calories and heart rate (when paired with heart rate monitor). Each run is stored in memory so you can review and analyze the data to see how you've improved.

The high-sensitivity GPS receiver sustains satellite reception, whether you’re tackling a trail or jogging through the urban canyons of skyscrapers. The Forerunner 405 is water-resistant (IPX7) and can be used outdoors or indoors (with an optional foot pod), making it the ultimate year-round, all-weather training tool.

Included with the Forerunner 405:

Heart Rate Monitor

USB ANT Stick

Forerunner 405 is available with or without a heart rate monitor (see the versions tab) to help you make the most out of your training. Versions with a digital heart rate monitor continuously track heart beats per minute. Train in a certain heart rate zone to improve your fitness level or compare your pace and heart rate to past performance on the same run.

The revolutionary patent-pending touch bezel on the face of the watch makes navigating the options easier than ever. Simply by tapping, holding or running a finger along the bezel, runners can begin a new workout, access their training history or challenge a Virtual Partner. The Forerunner 405 makes training with a Virtual Partner easy and efficient. Runners can adjust the Virtual Partner’s pace without stopping in the middle of a workout, and the Virtual Partner is always on and ready for a challenge.

Run, Sync, Store and Share
One of Garmin's most ambitious decisions has been to approach fitness devices as a total platform with their "ANT + Sport" connectivity system. All of Garmin's new fitness devices, including the Forerunner 405, Edge 605 and 705 bike computers, and Forerunner 50 heart rate monitor watches, will interface wirelessly with any devices that are compatible wiht the "ANT + Sport" protocol, including devices from other manufacturers.

Once you’ve logged the miles, the ANT + Sport wireless technology automatically transfers data to your computer when the Forerunner is in range. No cables, no hookups. The data’s just there, ready for you to analyze, categorize and share through Garmin's online community, Garmin Connect or optional Garmin Training Center software. You can wirelessly send workouts from your computer to Forerunner, too.

Share Wirelessly
With Forerunner 405 you can share your locations, advanced workouts and courses wirelessly with other Forerunner 405 users. Now you can send your favorite workout to your buddy to try, or compete against a friend's recorded course. Sharing data is easy. Just select "transfer" to send your information to nearby units.

Cross-Train
Take your training inside with the versatile Forerunner 405. Pair it with an optional foot pod to track your speed, distance and running cadence indoors when a GPS signal is unavailable. This new design clips onto your laces for easy removal and automatically turns on when you start moving. You can also add a speed/cadence bike sensor to track the speed and distance of your cycling workouts.

Be Part of A Community
Garmin acquired Motion-based, the largest shared repository of customer-generated gps-based routes, courses and maps. This was a significant move for Garmin to support the gps user community and bring a wealth of route options to gps users. With a simple connection to your computer, you can join a worldwide network of cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts through Garmin Connect our new, one-stop site for data analysis an sharing.

You can also upload to optional Garmin Training Center software for further analysis. Garmin Training Center stores large quanities of workout and ride data. Some of the things you can do are:

  • Review your workout data, including pace/speed, distance, time, calories burned; and if available, heart rate, cadence and detailed elevation.
  • View a detailed graph of your workout data, plotted over time or distance.
  • View a map of your workout that shows the exact path you traveled.
  • Categorize your workout history according to type of activity.
  • Review previous workouts, which are saved by day and week.
  • Create customized workouts with specific goals and rest intervals. Then send them to your fitness device.*
  • Schedule workouts for a specific day with calendar.

 "Well worth the money" 2009-09-13
By J. Ovenden (North Florida)
I bought it for my HDR-XR500V and found out it was also the cure for my HDR-SR5 that has no mic or earphone jacks.I use the stereo mode more often than the 5.1 surround sound. It sounds a little cleaner to me. I would reccomend this to anyone looking for a resonably priced quality wireless mic for their Sony.

 "Sony Bluetooth Microphone" 2009-07-15
By David Pierce
I actually haven't used the product yet, as I purchased the mic before the Sony camcorder, and haven't made a decision on which one to buy. On the Sony website all the fair priced camcorders are no longer avail. They are only selling the high end camcorders on their website. So I may need to find a used one via Amazon.com. But the product came highly recommended, I've used it before in a speaking engagement, and that's why I decided to buy my own. The box came very professionally wrapped with all the accessories and manuals! I'm very pleased thus far!

"Mixed bag; read before buying" 2009-05-30
By Charles G. Hawley (Santa Cruz, CA)
The audio from this mic and receiver is very good. We have shot over 200 videos on our website using this combination and the sound is not the problem. What we do have a problem with is the bulk of the microphone which is very difficult to conceal in a shirt or jacket. I guess if you're shooting a conversation with a flower arrangement between the speakers it would work fine, but for a single speaker on camera, it's very bulky - about half the size of a deck of cards. The second issue is that it uses up batteries like crazy. It uses to AAA alkaline disposables, and sometimes we get only an hour or so out of a pair of them. Perhaps our microphone is defective, but that seems unreasonable.

What I would really like is a Bluetooth microphone with the normal small wired mic and a small battery pack/transmitter.

"Remote Bluetooth Mike for Sony DVR-DVD403" 2009-04-26
By edofla (Newark, DE United States)
I bought his bluetooth microphone to use on my Sony DVR-DVD403 camcorder anticipating that it would work on my unit since it had a hot shoe similar to the 405 model... and it did. It worked beautifully for picking up the audio from a solo performer who sang and played a guitar. I was about 70-80 ft away up in the balcony with the microphone clipped to the music stand in front of the performer. The audio came thru nice and clear, but unfortunately it also picked a lot of the background noise of waiters picking up dishes, etc. since the performance was near the end of dinner.

 "Good sound quality,but a little bulky" 2009-01-30
By Marisa Jackson (Atlanta, GA)
I used this wireless mic for a wedding on the beach recently and it did great. The quality and clarity of the voices was very satisfying. The only thing that was annoying was the bulk of the mic itself. It didn't clip onto the clothes that easily and the blue light on top of the mic you could see. I am not a video guru so it worked very well for what i was doing and you dont have to hold the mic very close so you can shoot the footage and not see the mic,but hear the voice very clearly. Overall a good buy for what i needed.

"One of the better picture frames" 2009-09-24
By Christopher J. Dean (Houston, TX USA)
There is a sea of picture frames out there and this is one of the better ones...Not only does it look cool but it has very good resolution for its size. It wireless capability and remote were pluses for me that I really wanted. Did I mention it works great with Mac? Some frames don't. The only real issue I had was there doesn't seem to be a way to have multiple photo albums, they all appear in one big MyGallery. You also cannot have some on the internal and some on the external. Oh and with a firmware update (it is expandable) you can shuffle the photos. My other complaints are minor: No ethernet jack (cannot use wireless at work and it can be slooow), no direct connect option. Also the internal memory is only 512MB. C'mon guys 2GB is $10 these days! All in all I highly recommend this frame.

 "This frame is fabulous!" 2009-05-27
By Woody (Alexandria, VA)
We replaced an early model Ceiva frame with the Ipevo, and couldn't be happier. The quality of the display is infinitely better, and the frame's styling is, in our opinon, the best in the business. We've loaded a Picasa album with hundreds of our favorite pictures, set the time per slide at 10 seconds, and have found ourselves watching, spellbound, as the photos wirelessly cycle through. Even though I'm not the brightest when it comes to technology, I found setup to be relatively easy, and had everything up and running within an hour. When I contacted Ipevo customer service by e-mail on a weekend to ask about a feature (transition effects) that didn't seem to be working, they responded within 20 minutes with assistance (Note: transition effects only work with Gallery...not Live). Although I was intially a bit hesitant to spend the money on this frame (I'm cheap as well as being technically challenged), I now consider it money very well spent.

 "great product!" 2009-04-22
By C. Ching
I'm an architect and I use this frame in my studio for slideshow display of my design work portfolio. The super crisp screen shows high quality images, and the look and feel is high end, exquisite and polished. Never thought anyone would come up with the design of a digital photo frame that actually looks and works professionally. highly recommended.

 "First Review" 2009-03-23
By Mario Mendez (Glendale, CA)
I had seen a story on the Kaleido in January for CES 09 and I was struck by how elegant it looked. I purchased it and am giving my knee jerk review after having used it for less than a day. First the positive: It is a very handsome looking digital picture frame. The pictures appear bright and reorient themselves as needed if you pivot the picture frame. Pivoting the frame by the way, is pretty neat and gives the frame an overall different feel when you change its position. The installation of the eyestage and synchronization between my laptop and the Kaleido was also quick and hassle free.

Now for the down side, and what is really frustrating is that many of these things are rudimentary. First, there is no way to delete a picture directly off the Kaleido. You would actually have to remove the photos when it is synched with your computer if on the hard drive, or you would have to transfer your memory card to your computer if the photo is on your card. Second, it does not play MP3's, so you can forget about music accompanying your photo collages. Speaking of collages, this takes us to number 3 and personally the most unbelievable to me- There is no shuffle of photos. Let me repeat-NO SHUFFLE. That means your photos will always play in the order that they were taken since digital photos usually have an internal date stamp. The Kaleido knows the order of the photos you've taken, and will play them accordingly. Now this may initially seem like a minor quibble, but my son is 4 years older than my daughter, and I have taken hundreds of photos as any proud parent would. Without a shuffle this potentially means that I will not see a photo of my daughter for HOURS. The Kaleido has a cool albeit superfluous function where you can program the device to turn on and off at a certain time. I guess if I want to see a photo of my daughter, I can program it to turn on about 2 hours before I leave from work or open separate folders with different sets of photos and play as needed; but again, shuffling photos on a digital picture frame should be standard. It's like asking for volume control on a radio, they go hand in hand, or assuming a camera doesn't have a built in flash.

Customer service has responded quickly to my incredulous e-mails and the Kaleido can be upgraded, but I don't know if that means they can add shuffle or photo delete to this incarnation. The frame does chirp when you hit command functions, so I am optimistic that MP3 playing is possible, since it can at least emit sound.

Also if you download RSS feeds from websites, they cannot be deleted from your Kaleido, the messages you have all ready read can only be overwritten when you upload RSS updates. I guess this would not matter if you have the Kaleido at your desk at work (which may be an ideal place for it, but then again only if your office is wireless and you are alowed to use their servers for your personal use), but at home it's just extra clutter.

To sum up, the Ipevo Kaleido is definitely style over substance. It definitely looks higher end, but it should also perform higher end.

 "How to be sneaky." 2009-10-02
By Richard P. Papas (Chicago Il.)
I decided to get this remote after I saw my son nearly fall down a short flight of stairs to beat the 10 second timer of the camera to get into the picture. I remembered this incident after I got the camera. This wireless remote was the last thing I purchased after the A350 camera, the Sony 42 flash and a Minolta 75-300MM lens. So far I have only used it in testing to see if the remote and the flash, off the camera worked properly. Everything worked as it was intended. While pressing the remote button half way the camera went into focus mode and as I continued to press the button fully the flash fired and the camera took the picture perfectly. Its small size makes it very easy to put it in a shirt pocket. It will allow you to compose the picture while being part of the subject and possibly catch a moment of a true candid shot.

Sony Cameras are so funny .My 350 body shoud cost 2000 dollars easy. The support is excellent and the new 3.1 raw converter software is the bomb.Their accessories though are what kill them.I went out and bought all off brand stuff like this. For the same money as something with a 10 foot cord you get a wireless System that goes 100 feet. There are 2 batteries one in the reciever. If your not going to use it for a while you might want to take it out of the reciever.Big deal you need a phillips screwdriver.I forget but I think they are those stock cr2 batteries you see in the minolta bodies. The trigger has an on off button so I think your safe leaving that battery in.It has a nice cloth that you popthe battery into so you just pull on it and it pops out real easy a nice thought.Mine fit like a glove. Thanks amazon
