"Great tripod for a small camera" 2009-06-16
By RoadBikePete (Los Angeles)
Very, very small tripod which is great for a small camera. The legs have two friction extensions and rubber feet. It comes with a little pouch and a lens cloth. I've used this tripod for an Olympus Stylus 600 (small pocket camera) and Olympus C3020 (point&shoot at 14 ounces). Perfect companion for your small camera, well made and looks good too!

I give this tripod 5 stars even though it has only one drawback:

The tripod is just not sturdy enough for a mega-zoom crossover or DSLR. I now use an "Ultra-Pod II" for a Canon SX1-IS (at 1.1 pounds).

"Perfect mini tripod for a Canon G10" 2009-02-20
By Yakiniku Udon (Los Angeles, CA USA)
I got this mini tripod direct from the retail sony style store. I was worried it would not support a Canon G10, but it does so perfectly. The ballhead locks in many angles without worry of movement or the tripod tipping over, except on its side. Taking vertical pics with the G10 is impossible without your hand to support the tripod standing up. The weight of the G10 is just too much when sideways on the tripod.

Carrying pouch and cleaning cloth are an excellent bonus. Tripod feels sturdy and of good quality.

 "just what I wanted" 2009-01-06
By Elizabeth B. Ludwig (Boulder, CO)
Sony continues to put out great products that last almost a lifetime. The travel tripod works well with our camera, is light and easy to travel with or stick in your purse. Worked out amazingly well for our holiday gatherings. My boyfriend didn't even know he needed this item and now he doesn't know how we lived w/ out it. Nice for reviewing the pictures amongst a group of friends or family as well.

"I liked it so much I bought one for my father in law" 2009-09-07
By B. Jones
I video a lot of horse shows for my daughter and realized that I had to use two hands with my old tripod. Every time I zoomed in the video would bounce. With this tripod I never touch the camera and can use just one hand, no more bouncing to zoom in. I really like the slow zoom feature, makes the videos very smooth. Can't wait to see how it preforms at the cheer leading competition this winter and the high school equestrian events too. I am recommending it to all my video buddies.

 "Wonderful product" 2009-06-22
By Wesley Newell
This tripod is very handy. I filmed 2 weddings. One without the tripod and one with and the footage is a world of difference. I love the remote. At first a was weary of using it but with the camera mounted on the tripod it really would be hard to control without. The remote is simple and easy to understand. If you are serious about your camera get a serious tripod.

While it might be more spendy then most other tripods it does stand out above the rest. It is very lite and easy to unfold.

The bag that it comes with is rather cheap, but it will do the job. Tripod seems to be of good construction.

 "Fluid, Sturdy, Excellent Tripod" 2009-04-20
By Matt J. Rose (De Pere, WI USA)
Wow I was really impressed when I took this out of the box. I started by setting up the tripod, fully extended the legs, attached the quick release plate to my Sony HDR-SR11, and plugged the remote handle into my camera.

First let me say this thing is very sturdy even on thicker carpet, its lightweight but solid and perfect for the HDR-SR11.

The remote features included are excellent and well worth the price alone:

Slow Zoom- This feature alone is worth the 70 bucks, its adds such a dramatic effect to your videos its great! Its set up very conveniently with a switch to activate/deactivate the slow zoom feature on the left side of the remote handle and a thumb controlled W/T rocker on the top of the control handle.

Guide Frame- This is also another feature not included with my camera, but added by this tripod. It actually proves to be kinda useful, especially when trying to get various people/objects in one shot. The grid drawn right on the screen (also appears in the viewfinder) is broke down into 9 sections to assist in framing and subject locations.

All in all I'm very happy with this tripod, I gotta shoot a wedding for a friend in June and this should do the trick very nicely, with a smooth fluid pan tilt, and the added features mentioned above I cant wait to see the final product.

"Among The Best Portable Consumer Grade Tripods!" 2009-04-09
By Mike (San Jose, CA United States)
As a former professional Videographer and avid amateur Photographer I've worked with (and owned) the best tripods money can buy. It's a given that such equipment is a joy to use, not only from a functional standpoint but from the superb results that can be obtained. That said, most hobbyist shooters wouldn't seriously consider spending a small fortune for this type of gear even if the weight and size were practical. That's where the VCT-R100 comes in. Though it lacks the bullet-proof construction of pro models, it is amazingly light, compact (only 14" fully retracted), and plenty sturdy for the average user. Furthermore, it's 3-Way pan head is surprisingly fluid and smooth versus other tripods in it's class.

As far as possible cons go, most would be related to the fact that the maximum extension of this model is about 40 inches. That said, video shooters have little to worry about. Most modern camcorders use a flip screen (rather than a viewfinder) so angling the screen upwards easily allows you to shoot in comfort without crouching. On the other hand, photographers using cameras with a fixed (back of camera) screen will have little choice but to either sit, crouch down, or use the tripod on an elevated surface (eg; a table). In such cases, a 52" or taller model with a sturdy elevator might be a better choice (though portability will suffer as such a unit will be undoubtedly collapse to no less than 2 feet). Lastly, keep in mind that this unit is designed primarily for consumer grade equipment weighing less than 2 or 3 pounds.

As most of my video/photo work is hobby related these days, I really do appreciate the quality, portability and overall value of the VCT-R100. All things considered, I don't think you can do a whole lot better for less than $80. At $27 it's a steal!

 "Too Short!" 2009-04-07
By S. Thomas
Watch out, if your not aware already, this tripod only extends to about 39" or so. Take a ruler our if you don't believe me, but that is rather short. I exchanged it for the next model up, which extends to about 56". The reason I gave it 3 stars is because it would be a good tripod if your satisfied with that height limit.

 "A Great Lightweight TP" 2009-02-07
By R. Jones (Houston USA)
Good quality, light weight Aluminum construction. Compact and mobile. Just right for small digi cams and small camcorders. Good maneuverability and portability. But remember it only extends to about 4.5 feet max, so take this into consideration in angle of shooting. Can be placed on a table for extra height. Great finish in the Sony tradition. Only downside is that the pan and tilt levers/controls are small for a man's large hands, but they work just like they should. Bottom line is: I have to give it five stars because it meets all expectations and is exactly as represented.

"Works ok for a day or so, gets fatally loose soon after" 2009-09-29
By G. Cochrane (San Francisco, CA)
I wish I'd just bought an actual GorillaPod at this point. There are a multitude of joints on this knock-off that are too loose to hold the camera up after a day or two of playing (gently) around with it.

I'm going to buy a tube of superglue and try to build up a bit of additional plastic on the weak ball joints, but heck, I'd much rather not have to hack this thing to make it work. Beware.

I use this with my Nikon coolpix and others (Leica and Rollifex) digital/rangefinder compacts, and it actually works fairly well (i've several of these handy dandy tripods on hand). These tripods even come with a quick mount shoe Clip, just leave this attached to the camera and click them right back on the tripod when you need to. It is compact and fits into any pocket or bag. Outstanding value.

 "Great for the price" 2009-06-24
By sh229229 (Pittsburgh, PA)
For the low price, this is an excellent tripod. The main drawbacks of this tripod are the lack of an anchor for a bag, somewhat jerky panning, a less precise leveler (it is a circle with a dot in the middle), and the many plastic parts.

I use my tripod with my Canon PowerShot Pro Series S5 IS 8.0MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and it always feels sturdy. Even without a bag, this tripod should be able to handle most cameras, and the rubber feet on the bottom have excellent grip. The legs are metal, but most of the parts of plastic. Despite the shipping weight listed (4 lb), this tripod weighs under 3 lb. The current listed weight is 2.6 lb and when I weighed it I got 2.8 lb. I find it pretty light and easy to take with me, and the plastic is of good quality and very sturdy.

The panning isn't super smooth, but unless you need really smooth panning for high quality videos, you probably won't notice any problems. The dot-style leveler also isn't perfect, but it should be fine for eyeballing to make sure that you are not tilting badly. The quick-release head is very handy, and is a feature not always found on cheaper tripods. All in all, for the low price, this is a great tripod and I would purchase it again.

This tripod is very easy to setup. Once I got it out of the box, I didn't even need the instructions because it was it looked like what it did. This can go up to around 5 feet MAX. Which is pretty tall, its a good value for a tripod. This is very lightweight and small enough to bring it along with you! Definitely buy this if this is what you are looking for!
