I use my 2m ( 6ft ) Atlona High-quality Camcorder Audio/video Cable quite often. I use the cable to send video to my VCR/DVD player that sends the video to my TV. I also can use the cable to go directly to my TV. I also use it to send the video and audio from my camcorder to my external DVD Burners. This item arrived promptly, and that's about the only redeeming thing about the entire order. My order was missing the main support strap. There was no how-to assemble booklet or manual. The padding for the shoulder rest is not padding but extra firm plastic-like material, hardly what anyone could call comfortable. Aside from the missing parts, the unit has a cheap feel and I would not use this with a large pro-sumer or professional video camera/camcorder. The bolts that hold camera to the unit are flimsy. Customer support is questionable. I called and emailed the company but I got NO replies. Stay away from this company and spend the extra dollars to find a steady-cam device or look on youtube to build one yourself. There are actually kits on the web that show you how to make your own. I am stuck with a device I cannot use that I paid for. I am very dissatisfied and will probably have to contact Better Business Bureau not to mention Consumer Division of Attorney General's office until I get satisfaction.

Caveat Emptor when it comes to 47street Photo and this Opteka device!

Shoulder supported camcorders are smoother and require less energy to stabilize. The torso makes for a great pivot. The Opteka kind of makes a shoulder support system for cams that are without. I film cycling races with a Canon XHA1. It's not shoulder supported like the XL1 or 2 models.

Often I'm in tight spots with large crowds and have to maneuver to change lenses, tapes etc. Being able to do so without a dismount was impossible with the Steadybrace (abdomen support model). I don't have anything bad to say about Steadybrace. They have great customer support, and the brace is a good one to use but...my needs changed a bit.

I can operate easier now with the Opteka. The Opteka can- on the fly, be adjusted to aim higher or lower without over doing it with your back or fatiguing your shoulders. I can take both hands off the rig to change a lens or tape without dismounting because the camera rig is snug and secure to my torso. The Opteka is slim and simple. It appears to be made of thick, strong plastic. I don't know about their customer support since I haven't had to contact them. There doesn't appear to be a need for the Varizoom rocker that I had mounted to the Steadybrace as of yet. Since my hands aren't holding the support anymore, I can use both hands to zoom and focus now. I'll probably still use the Steadybrace for some events but I'm excited about using the Opteka for the simple design and not having to take the rig on and off. A big plus is this - I can also use the eyepiece or the LCD viewfinder without strain. Last but not least, cost. The Opteka is extremely affordable for what it does.

Update October:

I took this rig on a shoot. We were filming at some airports around the nation. Of course it wasnt practical in the plane but trying to get it set up once we landed was a task. I ended up just not using it into the second stop. What i did notice was that the device always wanted to lean to the right and cause you some unwanted tilt. Got some back pain from over correcting. Not sure I am going to use this a whole lot.

I was a little skeptical because the price was so cheap but I took the chance and I am very happy. I looked up the prices for these items individually and found I saved $ by buying this package deal. The camera bag is Sony so you know its awesome. The tripod is very sturdy and has a bag so it carries well. The battery is great its a bit large but I found I could record 10 x's longer than w/the stock battery on my camcorder. The battery charger is a little flimsy (where the battery connects to it) but if your careful when setting up the battery to charge it works great. Of course the lens cleaner items are a bit cheap but a Great extra since I always forget to buy these items when I'm out & about. (Lens cleaner consists of a 5-Piece Lens Cleaning Kit, great little kit...helped in a pinch!!)

I really like this camcorder because the image quality is great and it's sooooo easy to use. I love that the flip-out viewing screen is a touch screen and allows you to access the menus, etc.



What is disappointing is that you can't be closer than 6-7 feet away from your main subject or the focus is bad and/or you can't fit the whole person/object in the screen. This makes it difficult to get a good video if you're indoors in a small or medium sized room. Of course, Sony offers lens adapters and wide angle lenses (i.e.Sony VCL-DH0774 74mm 0.75x Wide Conversion lens for Sony DSC-H7/H9 Digital Still Cameras) for this camcorder that you can buy at an extra cost ($100-$200). I think they purposely designed the "standard" lens this way so you'd shell out the money to buy the extra equipment. I wish they'd just put a better standard lens on this thing.

Apparently, some technology cannot yet properly handle the high quality of the video, and of course, Sony would prefer to have tight control over there product line. Requires special software (provided with camcorder) to edit, back-up or even play the videos on your computer/ laptop. The recommended way to play the video is via an HD TV, that way no special software is required and one can just plug and play. If recording SD format video, than no such restrictions exist. But why record in SD format, that defeats the whole purpose of having the HD camcorder. Overall, a great value!

The charger is much more compact than the stand that came with the HDR-TG5V, with prongs that fold into the unit. I have not tried the battery in the camera yet, as it is charging. The manual indicates 155 min for full charge and 215 minutes for super charge (will supposedly last longer).



I was expecting a compact case that would hold the camera as well as the accessories, but this case is only big enough for the spare battery and charger.

I bought this to augment the battery that came with my Sony HDR-TG5V video camera. Unfortunately, Sony insists on using expensive proprietary battery designs. Fortunately, they design very good batteries. The camera runs for about 90 min on a full charge but when reviewing footage and playing with menus, it will leave you short on shooting time. A second battery is a sound decision. The mini charger frees you up from carting the docking station and charging brick + AC cord on a vacation. The battery and charger fit in a neat little pouch that takes up minimal space.

I needed a spare battery and charger for the Sony HDR-TG5V. I believe this kit is for the older model, and I didn't see the kit on the Sony website.

The kit is small, light, and very packable. The batteries do take a long time to charge, not a 15 minute deal. I used the kit on a recent trip, and the battery was ready to go after I left it plugged in overnight. It has a LED that goes out when the charge is finished.

A nice compact partitioned kit of AC charger and spare battery.

So far, so good. Very small, light weight. Is a bit dark, but in good light works great. Pictures don't seem to be 4mb. Appear grainy on computer screen.

It DOES automatically upload on my mac with imovie 9 and iphoto 9.

Good price for good camera.

Biggest drawback - the lens cover does not close automatically.
